Secondary School of Arganil in Search for the Energetic Self-Sufficiency Starting back in 2008 the Secondary School of Arganil is investing strongly in a sustainable energetic sub system, with the help of renewable sources of power, like Photovoltaic and Solar Power. Following a policy of self-sufficiency, the electricity produced is then sold to the official power supplier, EDP, with a price over the average on sale. Our school: a source of pollution? The pitiful loss of citizienship On the past 16th of January, the group Live to Protect moved to the south limit from the Natural Reserve of Santo André and Sancha Lagoons with the purpose of collecting the hostile plant, weeping-willow. Ecolã, an ecological enterprise Ecolã is a microenterprise in which fleece is transformed into other products, which are aimed for the general public. This company, which was founded in the beginning of 20th century has family origins and has passed from one generation to the next. Nowadays it belongs to the third generation. Fire against Fire On one hand there was a burnt and neglected forest, on the other, a well treated forest as a result of the work of St. Peter's firemen of Manteigas. Serra da Estrela's Natural Park
Human activity is the main reason why a natural park exists.
In the last decade humans have realized the importance of natural habitats as well as biodiversity. For that reason we are making an effort to protect endangered species. An example of this effort can be seen in Serra da Estrela's Natural Park. Here you have a variety of local species with unique characteristics. On the other hand they have something in common, their need for conservation.

The last watermill in danger Concerned about the environmental problems caused by the excessive consumption of fossil energies, we aimed to look for a watermill, one of the most ancient structures regarding kinetics energy use from the rivers' water. Thus, we have found an active watermill. Although it happens to be the only one in S. Roque and Nogueira do Cravo villages, it is still working, full of vitality.
